Crater Lake National Park

• Established: May 22, 1902

Known for its striking deep-blue color and the clarity of its water, Crater Lake is the deepest in the United States. The caldera that forms the lake was created by a volcanic eruption 7,700 years ago. With no inlets or outlets, its water comes solely from precipitation. Park activities include fishing, boat tours, hiking, and camping. The lake is accessible only by foot. Tour boats must be taken to and from the lake by helicopter.
