Glacier National Park

• Location: Flathead & Glacier Counties, MT
• Area: 1,013,322 acres
• Established: May 11, 1910

Glacier National Park's vast, pristine ecosystem includes over 130 named lakes carved by glaciers, during the last ice age. Soon after the park was established, numerous hotels and chalets were built in the area by the Great Northern Railway, in order to promote tourism. Many park visitors believe that September is the best time to visit, due to mild temperatures, smaller crowds, and the vibrant colors of fall leaves.
