Determining the Best Vehicle for You
Here are some things to consider that can help you determine which car is right for you.
- Decide how much you can afford to spend before beginning your search.
- If you are about to PCS, wait until you arrive at your new station to evaluate your situation. Also, keep in mind that your needs may change again once you re-PCS or return stateside.
- Determine what size vehicle you need. If you already have a family or are planning one, a larger vehicle may be in order. Perhaps you’ll be stationed somewhere gas prices are high and parking is tight. In that case, a smaller car may be more suited to your needs.
- Consider the elements in which you will be driving; whether there will be snow, extreme cold or heat; whether you’ll be near the sea, or in the mountains or desert. Often a car made in the country in which you’ll be stationed will be specifically engineered for the prevailing climate and driving conditions of that country. Remember that the elements you encounter may change again once you move on to your next PCS or return stateside.
- Car insurance rates vary for different types of vehicle. Keep in mind the cost of insurance when budgeting for a new car.
