The UK Payments Council announced the closure of the Cheque Guarantee Card Scheme to be effective June 30, 2011. All Cheque Guarantee Cards will expire on our system on or before June 30, 2011 depending on the card expiration date, and will no longer be accepted by local businesses.
In the UK, retailers prefer personal cheques to be guaranteed by a "Cheque Guarantee Card." The card identifies you as a bank account holder, is about the size of an ATM card, and guarantees payment of your cheque up to £100.*
Community Bank issues a £100 Cheque Guarantee Card to most account holders.
Always sign your cheque in the presence of the beneficiary and ensure that they write the card number on the back. This guarantees payment of each of your cheques. Always keep your cheque book and Cheque Guarantee Card separate.
If your card is lost or stolen, please report it immediately by calling 1-800-239-9427 or DSN (510) 226-2265, press option "6".
* Vendors typically will not accept more than one guaranteed cheque per day.
