As your budgeting efforts begin to pay off, it’s important to use the money you save wisely, by paying down debt or depositing it into appropriate savings vehicles. Consider setting up automatic transfers into a savings or other investment account. Steady deposits, even if they are modest at first, will add up over time.
Once you’ve learned to live within a certain budget, consider treating bonuses, extra deployment earnings, and pay-grade promotions as opportunities for additional saving. Rather than spending the extra earnings, save them. The point is not to deny yourself now, but give yourself greater opportunities for achieving your goals later on.
